Ashcan Home Stretch

Despite my silence, I’ve been tinkering with A Penny For My Thoughts, putting the text into final form for the Ashcan front at GenCon. I’ll be assembling the book this weekend, so if you’ve got questions or feedback for me, I need it right away.

One important issue has come up: What the game text makes you think about your ability to play the game. My intention is to make anyone feel like they can play it, but several readers have mentioned that they’re worried about their ability to do so. I need to figure out what exactly it is about the text that does that. It could be the lack of examples, but I suspect there’s more. Thoughts?

  1. I think most gamers – most people, actually – are just really gun-shy about making stuff up on the spot. That’s my guess as to why they’d react that way, anyhow… and I’m not sure that taking that on is really within the scope of your mission. Is it?
